Weld County Weed Division - Success Stories

This page is for sharing success stories. It is an opportunity to showcase your hard work and share with others techniques that have worked to eradicate noxious weeds on your property in Weld County.

Please send before and after pictures, along with a description of the steps taken to eradicate the noxious weeds. We will identify the pictures based on general location (i.e. township and range). If you want your name associated with the pictures, please let us know. Don’t worry if all you have is printed pictures. We can scan them into the computer and return the pictures to you. Just include your name and address on the back of the photos.

Let’s learn from each other, so that the work is easier and accomplishes more.

Before After

Township 6 Range 66. Proper harvesting and the use of chemicals prior to planting have improved this property over the years, decreasing the stress on the crop from the Canada thistle.

Township 6, Range 67. Establishing a good pasture of alfalfa and managing the alfalfa for maximum growth, the alfalfa has been able to out-compete the Canada thistle.

Township 1 Range 66. Using a combination of 2,4-D and Clarity on the Scotch thistle at the rosette stage has facilitated the control of the Scotch thistle. If the rosette stage is missed, the bolting plants were mowed down.

Township 1 range 67. Biological control mites were released the spring of 2004. The following fall, the bindweed was substantially less and the bindweed that was living was infested with visible damage from the mites. Continued monitoring of the site is needed.
